Budget 2014: Affordable Housing Proposals will be Discussed

Affordable Housing Proposals in Malaysia with be discussed with major industry players for the coming Budget 2014.

Those wanting to own a house can expect good news once the Government comes with measures to address the issue of affordable homes within the next two years, says Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

“The purpose of this workshop is to allow industry players to give us their opinions on short-term measures to control and reduce house prices.

“We are not here to immediately lower housing prices per se, but what we want to ensure is that those who want to buy will get a chance to buy houses,” Abdul Rahman said in a press conference after launching the workshop at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

He said the ministry had formed a monitoring committee, based on Prime Minister’s order, to make good of the election promise to build one million affordable homes across the country in the next five years.

He said although PR1MA Corporation Malaysia and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) were not under the ministry, Najib wanted the ministry to monitor the effectiveness of the relevant agencies to ensure that the objective to build the affordable houses could be delivered. – Star Property
